The Chinese Super League is known for signing on international
players with jaw-dropping amount of cash. This has been on for a while
and Nigerian players have not been left out of the movement.
We present you with 8 Nigerian footballers who are currently playing for Chinese clubs.
1. Jude Ighalo
Ighalo played for Watford F.C. for three years. He was so
instrumental to the club’s success in the English Premier League that in
December 2015 he was named Premier League Player of the Month. In
January 2017, he joined Chinese club, Changchun Yatai F.C. where he
earns £20 million a year.
2. Obafemi Martins
On 18 February 2016, Martins was signed for Chinese Super
League side Shanghai Shenhua. On 15 May 2016, he scored his first goal
with Shanghai as a late substitute in a 5–1 win over Guangzhou R&F.
3. Asisat Oshoala
Asisat Oshoala was officially signed to Chinese club Dalian Quanjian F.C.on 10 February 2017.
4. Mikel Obi
He is a Nigerian professional footballer who plays as
a midfielder for Chinese club Tianjin TEDA in the Chinese Super
League and the Nigeria national team.
5. Anthony Ujah
On 5 July 2016, Werder Bremen announced Ujah would be
joining Liaoning Whowin pending a medical for a reported transfer fee of
€13 million. Both player and club had rejected a similar offer from
Liaoning Whowin in the previous winter transfer window. Two days later,
the move was finalised with Ujah signing a three-year contract.
6. Brown Ideye
Ideye eventually moved to China in January 2017 where he signed with
Tianjin TEDA. The deal is for two and a half years, and the pay is €3.5
million per year.
7. Chinedu Obasi
Obasi moved abroad when he signed for China League One Shenzhen on 4
February 2017, signing a one-year contract and joining
manager Sven-Göran Eriksson.
8. John Owoeri
Chinese club, Baoding Yingli Yitong, signed him in January 2017. He earns €600,000 per season
