=> House Of Reps Summons Diezani Alison-Madueke-Thisday

The House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee investigating the Refined Product Exchange Agreement/Crude Oil Swap between the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation/Petroleum Pipelines Marketing Companies (NNPC/PPMC) has summoned the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, to explain her role in the award of contracts worth $24billion without valid agreements signed with the befitting companies.
Three former Group Managing Directors (GMDs) of the NNPC, Mr. Austin Oniwon, Mr. Andrew Yakubu and Mr. Joseph Dawha, who appeared before the committee last week, indicted the former minister, accusing her of extending the oil swap contracts for Duke Oil Company Incorporated and Trafigura B.V, without valid agreements.
The contracts for both firms had expired in October 2011, but they had continued to lift crude without formal contract extension for 20 months, lifting crude worth $24billion.
The contracts were formalised in December 2014 and backdated to cover the period from when they earlier expired.
The Chairman of the ad hoc committee, Hon. Zakari Mohammed (Kwara APC) in a telephone interview with THISDAY disclosed that the former minister would be invited by the committee.
“The former oil minister’s invitation will definitely go to her tomorrow (Monday). We are going to invite her, because contracts expired for 20 months, there was no renewal of contract, but the GMDs wrote to her, and she, on her own, approved the contracts,” he said.
It remains unclear how the former minister would be expected to honour the invitation following reports of her arrest in the United Kingdom, where her passport was also seized as part of her bail conditions.
Mohammed however explained that her not being able to appear is not a matter for the commitee, which has to have it on record that she was informed “that we need her attention…if we are now saying she will not show up, that is a matter of speculation.”
The lawmaker however debunked insinuations that the probe was targeted at the former minister, insisting that the House is determined to avoid a repeat of the sort of happenings that have been revealed in the course of the oil swap deals investigation.

=> ''I Can Bring The US Dollar To N200 In One Month'' - Business Mogul, Ifeanyi Ubah - ChannelsTV

As the nation's currency exchanges at N400 to the US dollar on Sunday, Billionaire business mogul has said that if the Buhari-led federal government consults him, he could restore the nation's currency to an exchange rate of N200 to one US Dollar within one month.
Speaking on a Channels Television politics programme on Sunday, billionaire businessman and the Chairman of Capital Oil and Gas Services Ltd., Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, has advised the Federal Government to consult some Nigerians who can halt the free fall of the Naira which is affecting the nation’s economy. The Naira currently exchanges at N400 to the US dollar.
The Publisher of The Authority newspapers, said that if the President Buhari-le federal government consults him, he could restore the nation’s currency to an exchange rate of N200 to one US Dollar within one month, thereby arresting the slide in the Naira which is virtually crippling the economy.

The Chairman of Ifeanyi Ubah Football Club, however did not say how he was going to bring the Naira down to an exchange rate of 200 per dollar, but said the government could seize everything he owns if he failed to do this within one month, if given the mandate.
Chief Ubah also affirmed that he was not involved in any way whatsoever in the $2.3 billion Dasukigate arms deal that involved the former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki, adding that he was not involved in the politics of contracts and has never done any government contracts, whether at the Federal, state or local government levels.
"I am highly misunderstood, sometimes controversial. But I have never done any government contracts. I did not collect any money from Government; I do not have an oil block – and I have not asked for one.
"I did not know Dasuki. TAN never received money from Dasuki or the People’s Democratic Party. We did what we did in the interest of the nation and for posterity.

=> Civilian-JTF In Konduga Local Government Of Borno Claims Shekau Was Arrested-Africaonline.cc

The Nigerian military has said it is yet to confirm the speculation over an arrest of Boko Haram kingpin popularly known as Bashir Sarkin Yanka, which, in Hausa, means Bashir the King of Slaughter and who had been acting as Abubakar Shekau in some videos on the social media.
Local security volunteer group known as Civilian JTF in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State claimed that it had arrested the notorious Boko Haram kingpin.
The arrested suspect was reported to have confessed to the Civilian JTF that he had acted as Boko Haram leader, Shekau, in some videos and was responsible for the death of his (Bashir’s) mother, two sisters and brother apart from engaging in mass slaughter.
However, spokesperson of Operation Lafiya Dole in the North-East, Air Commodore Dele Alonge, said the military could not confirm the arrest of the Shekau’s actor yet.
He said the military had sustained its counter-insurgency operations where some terrorists had been eliminated and others apprehended in the North-East.
Alonge said: “As you are aware, the Nigerian military has succeeded in routing out terrorists from some of their hideouts in the North-East, and, in the process, some were eliminated and others had been arrested.
“We cannot at the moment provide the identities of those in our custody or in other places until after we have conducted thorough investigations,” he said.
Speaking further, he said the military arrested two suspects, Audu Umar and Hassan Umar for smuggling themselves among the Internally Displaced People (IDPs) brought from Pulka to Gwoza IDPs Camp in Borno State.
He said the male suspects who gave their names as Audu Umar and Hassan Umar were undergoing interrogation by the military and intelligence operatives.

=>Dasukigate: Metuh Wants Jonathan As Witness-Sunnews

NATIONAL Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh, has told a Federal High Court that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) cannot prosecute him without interrogating former President Goodluck Jonathan regarding the source of the N400 million alleged to be part of arms purchase funds.
Metuh, who has filed a no case submission asking the court to discharge him from the seven- count money laundering charge preferred against him and his company, Destra Investment Limited, said the Prosecution Witness (PW5) evidence that presentation for which money was paid was made to Jonathan makes the investigation of his role as well as his evidence vital and indeed crucial without which no prima facie case can conceivably be said to have been made out. Chief Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN) led Metuh’s defence team.

“Dr. Jonathan, to whom the presentation was made for which the payment was made, is therefore a material and indispensible person in order for a prima facie case to be present. Where the prosecution failed to call such a vital witness, a strong presumption will arise that the evidence, if called, would be unfavourable to the prosecution.
Metuh argued that the EFCC has not established a prima facie case against him in line with Sections 302 and 357 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015 since the prosecution has not made such case against him and his company.
“In any case, the “mens rea’ of the defendants to the effect that former NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd) committed a criminal offence cannot be inferred, but must be established by a competent evidence which must come from the prosecution.
It is the case of Metuh that no evidence was laid out by the prosecution that N400 million was the proceed of alleged criminal conduct committed by Dasuki, adding that if anything, all the documents presented by the prosecution in the case only point out that the former NSA complied with due process and the contrary has not been pronounced by the court of competent jurisdiction.
“In this case, by the evidence of PW3 who works in the Office of the National Security Adviser [ONSA], the NSA is answerable to the then President Goodluck Jonathan only,” he said.READ FULL NEWS

POLITICAL CAREER AND LIFE

After the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2013, Yemi was tasked, with other notable Nigerians, to design and produce a manifesto for the new political party. This culminated in the presentation of the "Roadmap to a New Nigeria" , a document published by APC as its manifesto if elected to power . The highlights of the Roadmap included a free schools meal plan, a conditional cash transfer to the 25 million poorest Nigerians if they enroll children in school and immunise them. There were also a number of programs designed to create economic opportunities for Nigeria's massive youth population.
On 17 December 2014 the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, retired General Muhammadu Buhari, announced Osinbajo as his running mate and vice-presidential candidate for the 2015 general elections.
On 31 March 2015 Buhari was confirmed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of the presidential elections. Thus Osinbajo became the Vice President-elect of Nigeria. They were both sworn in on 29 May 2015.

Professor Yemi Osinbajo assumed office after taking the oath of office on 29th May, 2015 at the Eagle Square, Abuja. As the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he is expected to oversee the economic planning team and report, as well as make recommendations, to the president who takes the final decision. Because of his legal background and antecedents as a commissioner for justice in Lagos state for eight years, many expect that he will contribute a great deal to the much needed reform of the judicial system at the national level. During the 2014/2015 campaigns of the All progressives Congress, Professor Yemi Osinbajo held numerous town hall meetings across the country as against the popular rallies that many Nigerians and their politicians were used to. One of his campaign promises, which he has recently reiterated, was the plan to feed a school child a meal per day. Beyond feeding the school children, he has recently emphasized that this plan will create jobs (another campaign promise) for those who will make it happen.

Prof. Yemi Osinbajo was also the Pastor in charge of the Lagos Province 48, Olive Tree provincial headquarter parish, Ikoyi before his inauguration into office as the Vice President of Nigeria. He however still insists that he remains the pastor-in-charge of the said province and he his only on loan to the Federal Government. In his words,”Just like Pastor Ibitayo has said we are on loan. I am still the pastor-in-charge of Province 48 in Lagos and my wife remains wife of the pastor-in-charge.”

=>Nigerian Army to Increase Personnel Strength to 200,000-ThisDay

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt General Tukur Buratai, has disclosed that the army will embark on an ambitious expansion programme to address the manpower needs of the force to respond appropriately to contemporary threats to national security.
To this effect, Buratai said the army planned to increase its personnel strength from its present 100,000 to slightly above 200,000 in the next eight years.
The COAS, while delivering a lecture titled: ‘Nigerian Army: Challenges and Future Perspectives,’  at the National Defence College (NDC), Abuja, added that 12,000 personnel would be recruited in 2016 alone to fill the vacancies created as a result of the new establishments in the army.
He explained that the army’s expansion programme was aimed at boosting its response capacity while stressing that its capabilities to effectively deal with its present challenges were however not in doubt.
According to him, the contemporary national security needs and Nigeria’s territorial size require more than what the army presently have in terms of personnel strength.
Buratai noted that the citing of the Special Forces Training Centre in Buni Yadi in Yobe State, which is one of the theatres of the Boko Haram war, was an indication of the army’s determination to end insurgency.
In his lecture, Buratai identified Nigeria’s weak industrial base, the effect of climate change on the environment and Nigeria’s porous borders as some of the factors fuelling armed conflict in Nigeria.
The army chief said the force would establish a new division in Borno State.
He said the establishment of the 8 Division, Nigerian Army,  located in the northern part of Borno State,  was part of strategic plan by the army to boost military operations against terrorists particularly in areas around the Lake Chad Basin.
The Nigerian army under the then COAS,  Lt-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd),  in August 2013, established the 7 Infantry Division in Maiduguri to boost the military’s counter-insurgency operation in the North-east.
Even though detail of the new establishment was not disclosed, Buratai said the new division would soon become fully operational with logistics and manpower deployments.
The army chief also disclosed that plans were underway to establish another division to be known as the 6 Division, Nigerian Army,  with Headquarters in yet to be identified location in the South-south region of the country.
According to him, “The establishment of the new divisions is part of a strategic plan to improve on the Nigerian army’s operational capabilities in the face of emerging threats to national security.”Buratai noted that the establishment of the additional formations would bring the number of divisions in the Nigerian army to eight.

=>CBN bans use of dollars for overseas fees, medical trips
- ChannelsTV

Reports have it that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has placed a ban on the use of dollar to pay for overseas school fees.
Godwin Emefiele, CBN governor
According to Boason Omofaye, the head of business news at Channels television, who made this assertion this morning, overseas school fees and medical tourism have been placed on CBN’s foreign exchange prohibitive list.
By this directive, Nigerians who may need to go outside the country for education purpose or health care will have to get the foreign currency from the parallel market to carry out their engagements.
This reason for this new development could not be ascertained but it may not be unconnected to the weakening state of the Nigerian currency against the dollar on the parallel market.
Only yesterday, experts from all walks of life assembled at a business colloquium to debate if it is imperative to devaluate the naira.
The colloquium, facilitated by The Cable, an online newspaper, took place at the civic centre, Lagos.
Titled “Naira On Trial: To devaluate or Not?” had business tycoons, professionals, analysts, among others in attendance.
The keynote speakers took turns to share their insights on the topic focusing on the merits and demerits of devaluating Naira.

=>  Parents weep as court sends 16 ABUAD students to prison-The Nation

Tears flowed freely inside the Ekiti State Judiciary premises on Friday as a Chief Magistrate’s Court remanded 16 students of Afe Babalola University (ABUAD), Ado Ekiti in prison custody for their roles in the mayhem that rocked the institution last Sunday.
They are being prosecuted for attempted robbery, arson and burglary allegedly committed during the riot that occurred on the campus of the private university.
They were accused of attempting to rob a branch of Wema Bank located inside the campus, setting houses of ABUAD security staff members ablaze and burglary of a boutique belonging to the wife of the university’s founder, Mrs. Modupe Babalola.
Parents of the remanded students broke down and wept profusely as their children were being marched into a Toyota pick-up van belonging to the state command of the Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS) heading for the Federal Prisons, Ado Ekiti.
The affected students are to remain in prison custody pending an advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The mother of the only female student among the accused persons amid sobs asserted the innocence of her daughter who was said to be in her final year at the university.
A distraught mother of one of the embattled students lamented saying: “I have been fasting and praying, why is my child implicated in this case? I have struggled to give him the best education, I didn’t know this is where it would take him. My child is innocent oh!”

=> REVEALED: Possible locations of Chibok girls identified by the Nigerian Air Force-Nigerianeye

Possible locations of the abducted Chibok school girls may have been identified by the Nigerian Air Force ,according to indications last night.
The Director of Public Relations of the Air Force, Group Captain Ayodele Famuyiwa, told Channels Television that the force has therefore abstained from attacking the identified areas to avoid hitting the girls.
The latest aerial bombardment of Sambisa forest,Famuyiwa said, had been aimed at the logistics base of the Boko Haram sect and not areas where the Chibok girls could be located.
He said:“We have no fears that the girls are not there because hat particular location has been under surveillance for quite a while and we suspected maybe it’s a kind of ammunition depot or maybe a workshop that they are using as their logistics place.
“Once you take off the logistics base, of course you gradually weaken the resolve of the enemy to be able to prosecute any campaign.”
Group Captain Famuyiwa said the military is deploying the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to maximum use in its battle with Boko Haram because it is cheaper to run and reduces lives.
The UAVs,he said : “have the capability to be airborne for up to eleven hours and they are quite cheap to maintain. So, we have been able to employ the UAV to a great extent to carry out reconnaissance and surveillance basically for intelligence gathering on the activities of the Boko Haram.”
He said that the UAVs have also helped the Air Force to understand the terrorists’ pattern of movement and “how to be able to counter them should they want to strike or spring any surprise”.
The girls were abducted from the Government Girls Secondary School,Chibok,Borno State.
Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo said last week that the girls may never be found again.
