In 2017, several events happened and these things trended for long before being replaced by other issues. Some of these things caused us to laugh and made us happy. Last year, it was Bobrisky, the Mclurre twins, Olajumoke(the bread seller) that were the internet sensations.

1. Big Shaq(Man's Not Hot)
The man of the moment or rather the man of the memes. Big Shaq came into prominence after his appearance on Fire In The Boothwhich became a viral hit. Real name, Michael Dapaah, Big Shaq is a British comedian who makes his fans and followers with his funny instagram skits.
However, his freestyle on BBC's 1Xtra's Fire In The Booth with Charlie Sloth turned out to be an overnight success for him. The chorus "Man's not hot" became a popular saying all over the world. They iconic line "The ting goes skrrrahh/ Pap pap ka ka ka/ Skibiki pap pap/ And a pu pu pudrrrr boom/ Skya/ du du ku ku dun dun/ poom" was also a delighting saying.
After the skit, Big Shaq was jacked up by Island records and seeing the way DJs had been dropping his skit into their sets — as well as the raucous crowd reaction that would typically follow — he released the freestyle as an official single under the more bossed-up moniker Big Shaq, and cracked the U.K. Top 40 with Man's Not Hot. The video for the song has amassed 122Million views on YouTube in just one Month and Shaq is definitely Internet Sensation of the Year
2. Patapaa(One Corner)
The One Corner dance started as a revolution in Ghana. The dance which stemmed from a song from a rising artist known as Patapaa drove patrons “mad” at the Swedru Akwambo festival where he was crowned the winner of the season. Coming to Nigeria, Nigerians took it as their own product.
Celebrities like Falz and Reekado Banks joined the bandwagon. The dance became an instant hit over the country. YouTube was full of varieties and different styles of the "One Corner" Dance. Who sang it? Only a few people knew. A relatively unknown "patapaa". Even the name sounds weird. But who cares.
The high Tempo hi-life Azonto song obviously has no meaningful lyrics but it gained immense recognition in West Africa and comes with a frenzy paralytic dance which is sensual. A sexual-simulating dance, Patapaaseems to have become popular overnight. While most people have termed the song as the dumbest song to have become a hit, one can't fault the song given it's danceable rhythm.
3. Speedy Darlington(BangDadaDang)
US-Based Nigerian Rapper Speedy Darlington caused a catastrophe when he dropped BangDadaDang. A low-quality song with no meaning, Speedy gained popularity when US Rapper, P. Daddy shared a post on Instagram saying Speedy Inspires him.
With his unique hairstyle which he has confirmed to be a "transmitter and receiver of energy", Speedy Darlington has been controversial to say the least.
His regular profound love for Tonto Dike who has turned him down to his beef with fellow "not regular guy" Vic O, always claiming to have inspired P. Diddy and also dissing Offset of The Migos group, Speedy was always stirring up controversies.
4. Destiny Boy(If Cover)
Destiny Boy came on to the radar when he dropped a cover to Davido's hit song "If". The song went viral and was different due to Destiny Boy's infusion of fuji lyrics. This created a lot of buzz for the young superstar. His cover of If has over 260K streams on his Instagram page.
Aged 13, the singer gained more popularity and Industry recognition after he released the If Cover, he has since then been hanging out with fellow celebrities like Wande Coal, Tuface, Humblesmith and also dropped covers to Ycee's Juice, Olamide's Wo and Mayorkun's Mama.
He did this with a fuji twist which made his covers stand out.
5. Charles Okocha(Shove It Up Your Ass)
Nollywood actor came into the scene in 2015 when he did Igwe Tupac. The interesting actor who is known for his abroad returnee roles and speaking in a ridiculous American accent.
The name "Igwe Tupac" stuck like glue since then and in 2017, his fame soared when he started doing Instagram skits. Funny instagram skits. His famous phrase "Shove it up your ass" went viral and this really made him one of the internet sensations of 2017.
