TechCrunch’s Startup Battlefield is a Startup competition by the tech media company, that has held in several countries worldwide and has featured companies (then Startups) like Mint, Dropbox, Yammer, Tripit, etc, in past editions of the event. This October, TechCrunch, and Facebook are collaborating to bring TechCrunch’s very first Startup Battlefield to Nairobi, Africa on October 11.
The pitch-off competition is open to startups from all over Africa, who are eligible to participate in any of these three categories: Productivity and Utility, Social Good, and Gaming and Entertainment. Top tier investors and founders, as well as TechCrunch editors, will be on seat to judge and pick the winners in each category as well as an overall winner.
The overall winner will receive US$25,000 in no-equity cash plus an all-expense paid trip for two to San Francisco to compete in the Battlefield at TechCrunch’s flagship event, Disrupt SF in 2018 (assuming the company still qualifies to compete at this time).
The Facebook Africa team, including Ime Archibong (Facebook’s Vice President of Partnerships); Emeka Afigbo (Facebook’s Head of Platform Partnerships for Middle East & Africa); and Uche Ofodile from the Facebook Connectivity team, will be live in Nairobi, Kenya from 9 to 12 October 2017, speaking and connecting with participants at the event.
Startup Battlefield Africa starts at 9:00 AM EAT on October 11. The event will be live-streamed on TechCrunch. Be sure to tune in.
