INTRODUCTION

EARLY LIFE AND BACKGROUND
Juliana Olayode, the last girl in a family of eight was born and brought up in Lagos. Juliana Olayode hails from Ogun State. She worships at The Ark, a church for young adults and she is a proud advocate of sexual purity. She is yet to attend a university.
SPEAKING MORE ABOUT HER BACKGROUND:
You are very new to the screen, when did you graduate from school?
I never went to the university. I did try initially but it didn't work out. Instead of spending more years trying, I decided to follow my passion, acting. I intend on getting certifications that would improve me as an actress.
What’s the attraction to acting?
I have always loved acting. Right from childhood, even in my every day interactions with family and friends, I've been very dramatic; always talking, gesticulating, being naughty, to mention a few. Acting is in me. Most of my friends know I have always said I would be the best actress in the world. This seems like a lofty goal but that's how much acting means to me. I guess one other attraction I have to acting is that it affords me the "rare luxury" of becoming anything I want to be. It's like living in another world.
CAREER AND LIFE
She clinched the role in ‘Jenifa’s Diary’ after attending the audition. She learned bout the audition via a broadcast message on one of the social media platforms. She had been on four sets before ‘Jenifa’s Diary’. Juliana Olayode has featured in a few movies after Jenifa’s Diary.
She attended the Jennifa's diary audition and there were 527 people on the list. The audition was supposed to start by 10am. She was there by 8am and was surprised to see the crowd. She wanted to go back home but his mum, mentor and friends that she called, told her not to leave there without being auditioned. A few days later, she was called for another audition and she scaled through and was called back for yet another. It was really competitive as they had about 20 people wanting to play Toyosi at the third stage of audition.
According to her she was later picked to be the one.
SHE SPEAKS MORE ABOUT HERSELF AND CAREER:
On being a part of Jenifa’s Diary:
I was on my way to church when a friend invited me for an audition. The first time I auditioned, I didn’t do it well but the judges gave me another chance. I wasn’t expecting them to get back to me but they informed me some months later that I had gotten the role. That was my first time on set and I had a lovely time acting alongside experienced thespians like Yemi Solade and Tina Mba.
Working with Funke Akindele-Bello and playing Toyosi in Jenifa’s Diary has been a beautiful experience. Funke is very versatile, hard-working and a disciplinarian. She always takes her time in anything she does because she always wants to come out with the best.
On the Challenges that comes with being an actor:
The challenges I have had so far have to do with working with people who don’t share my values. Most times, I reject scripts because I cannot play some roles because of my beliefs. Already, I have acted in movies like Couple of Days, Where Does Beauty Go?, Rivers Within, Click Now, and some others.
On her Sexual purity journey:
I am a strong advocate for sexual purity and it goes beyond the screen for me. That is who I am and I’m not doing it for any other reason than that. Years before I began acting, God told me that He would open doors for me and that wherever I go, I should always talk about Him and sexual purity. I belong to Mine Ministry which advocates sexual purity and we have our World Virginity Day on the second Saturday in June every year.
Virginity Day isn’t only for virgins but for all who stand for sexual purity and know that virginity isn’t a thing of the past. There are lots of immoral things on social media which attract a lot of traffic but it’s sad that when you talk about something like sexual purity, people look at you like you’re doing something weird. I must confess that it has not been easy for me. But irrespective of what goes on around me and in the movie industry, I have resolved to stand tall and stay true to my values.
In 2016, Juliana won the award of the Best Actress of the year from the department of Theatre Arts from the Federal University and also received an award for Next Rated Act (Movie) from Tush Awards.
Olayode bagged an ambassadorial deal with VV Hair Nigeria.
